Reading Running Routes

Right,

got a bit of a time to mention a couple of things regarding my running life, this one is a week's worth of chunk...

First of all, I am bored running around the same route day in day out, so on Thursday I decided to take right where I should take a left and it got me down town. Only problem was the balance of the route, all downhill on the first part and of course all up hill on the second part.

Have a look, it's all charted here:

Next!
On Sunday just gone I took part in a training session about improving running techniques.

The session was run by the Running School [http://runningschool.co.uk/] and the asset to our city of Reading, the SweatShop which is just across the road from the Reading train station.

We went to a lovely park just around the corner from the train station, but we took the long way there with a 15 minutes run.

At the green of the park we were met by the Running School team, mr Antoniades and his assistants. He is a very direct and pleasant fellow, he knows how to run the session and transmit the information you need to improve your running.

Each part of the course was proven to work as we had to run in a specific way to demonstrate the positive and negative effects of leg and arms movement. This direct impact of technique on our running style was impressive. We gained so much in such a short period of time.

So the next 6 weeks will try to change the current state of "conscious competence" to "unconscious competence" by doing the following 3 things:

A. Active warmup / stretching to start
(back kicks, waist twists and arm windmills).
B. Circular motion of the legs when running.
(bit exaggerated starting for a few minutes at a time)
C. Full arm motion, "back pocket to chin".
(near 90 degrees, fists with thumb top side and push back for speed)
D. Recovery stretches AFTER the run.

I will email mr Antoniades for a running program to try, I could stick it here for general use if he gives me his permission.

to be continued...
