2011 Reading Half Marathon

The race is over, what a lovely race it was.

Most fun and joy and general tomfoolery occurred before mile 10, after that my pride had to be swallowed.

It was an effort of balancing what appeared to be a tired leg - or two - almost pulling the wrong way, and try to maintain some of the good time I was doing and having till then.

Still, taking it easy has it's rewards, one can down loads of free lucozade for starts. No injuries either! Plus an easy time to beat on my next half mar.

Most of all, yes it was fun, I got a medal, loads of super food and a silver foil cape.

I am jealous of my training mate Simon. He did it in 2:13, I did it in 2:39 and this is exactly the Dx over his training and mine.

WELL DONE SIMON MATE!

I was very happy to see his family on the side cheering. Also the Westons were around in a couple of places cheering for me too! Thank god I spotted them early the second time around and got back into the running mode!

Lovely to see super marshal Angela, again lucky she watched me race towards the end, a mile earlier and I would have to stop and chat, I was going that slow.

My sweet wife and kids come to see me too. Joy took a video of me bragging I haven't walked once! I think it almost caused a diplomatic episode on facebook, thanks Sarah, your sense of humor did not translate that well, so it got censored!

Joy urged me to train and also to take it easy, she did support me a lot and today she took all the weight of my feet which is very wise of her! I'll thank her later.

Yup this lovely map above is half a marathon. Would I be able to make it a full one? no way at my current fitness level.

Which brings me to the conclusion of this blog. I got to keep the training in a more strict regime.

Avoiding injury does just that, keep on running!
